Year:   2025.

Materials:   Hand‑shaped clay, terra sigillata, engobes, glazes.

Technique:   Reduction firing in a smoke‑firing kiln.

Place of Creation:   Daugavpils, Latvia.

Description:   This piece emerges from a tactile, intuitive engagement with clay, enriched through layers of terra sigillata, engobes, and glazes that respond dramatically to the unpredictability of smoke‑reduction firing. The surface carries traces of transformation—subtle shifts of color, burn marks, and atmospheric textures—revealing the dialogue between deliberate shaping and the elemental forces of fire and smoke. The work embodies a raw, earthy presence while maintaining a refined sensitivity to material nuance.

Exhibition History:   Partly exhibited at the Mark Rothko Museum, Daugavpils, as part of the Martinsons Award 2025 exhibitions. The artwork awarded with Martinsons Award 2025 Gold Prize.

Publication History:   Published in the catalogue of the 5th Latvia Ceramics Biennale, 2025.
